Stillness Feels Uncomfortable When You’re Used to Noise
Quiet can feel strange when your mind is always moving
When everything gets quiet, something inside you feels off.
Not peaceful. Not calm. Just uncomfortable.
You sit down with nothing to do, and instead of relaxing, your mind starts searching.
It looks for something.
A distraction. A thought. A reason to move again.
This is not because you cannot be still.
It is because you are not used to it.
When your life has been filled with constant input, your brain adapts to that. It starts expecting movement. And when it is gone, it feels like something is missing.
So your mind creates its own noise.
It replays things. It brings up worries. It fills the silence.
Not because something is wrong.
But because silence is unfamiliar.
And anything unfamiliar feels uncomfortable at first.
Most people take this as a sign to go back to being busy.
But this discomfort is part of the shift.
If you stay with it, without trying to fix it, something changes.
The noise softens.
The urgency fades.
You begin to notice your breathing again. Your body. The space around you.
Stillness is not empty.
It just feels that way in the beginning.
But if you give it time, it becomes grounding.
It becomes clarity.
Still Point

This concept rings true w/ me… thank you for putting into words that encapsulates the feeling so succinctly
So true, thank you so much for sharing. Makes me happy to know others will read this as well and get inspired by it, because it’s so important to sit with stillness. Also, getting through that uncomfortable stage is indeed where the magic happens. You’ll find real happiness, because the urge to do something about the present moment fades and everything is just as it is. Thank you again for sharing <3
